How to Send Automatic WhatsApp Birthday Offers
One daily send that greets each customer on their birthday — set it up once and it runs every morning.
A birthday message with a little gift is one of the warmest, best-performing sends there is — and you can make it fully automatic. Set it up once; every morning it greets that day's birthday customers on its own.
How it works
You store each customer's birthday in a date field, then run a daily recurring broadcast whose segment filters "birthday · day & month is today" (that filter ignores the year, so it matches the date each year). Each day the send rebuilds its audience, so it reaches exactly that day's birthdays.
Step 1 — Create a birthday field
In Settings → Contact Attributes, add a field named "Birthday" with key birthday, type Date, and click Add Field.
Step 2 — Collect birthdays
Unlike order data, a birthday isn't something your store already knows — so you fill this field yourself. Any of these work: ask customers at signup or in a form, ask in chat and save the answer, or import/push your existing list via your account's API. The campaign simply greets whoever has a birthday on file; contacts without one are skipped.
Step 3 — Build the daily birthday send
- Create a broadcast with a friendly birthday template (add a gift — a code or free shipping — to lift it).
- In the schedule, switch from One-time to Repeat and choose Daily at a morning time.
- Under Audience → By segment, add the condition birthday · day & month is today.
- Test-send to yourself, then activate. That's it — it runs every day.
Tips
- Make the gift time-boxed ("valid this week") so it drives a visit, not just a smile.
- Keep the message personal — use their first name.
- The same pattern works for sign-up anniversaries — just add an anniversary_date field and reuse "day & month is today".
Frequently asked questions
Can WhatsApp send birthday messages automatically?
Yes. Store each customer's birthday in a Date field, then run a daily recurring broadcast filtered to 'birthday: day & month is today'. It reaches that day's birthday customers every morning without any manual work.
Where do the birthdays come from?
You provide them — a birthday isn't in your store data. Collect them at signup, ask in chat, or import/push your list via the API. The daily send simply greets whoever has a birthday on file and skips those who don't.
Does the birthday filter care about the year?
No. The 'day & month is today' filter ignores the year, so a birthday of 1990-07-11 matches every 11 July — exactly what you want for an annual birthday send.
